
Greenco Tech AB was granted support from the Swedish Energy Agency for the project “An Innovative Heat Pump for District Heating/Cooling and CCHP Systems.”
The project focused on developing and validating a novel heat pump concept designed for flexible energy systems, with relevance for district heating, district cooling and combined cooling, heating and power applications.
The concept was based on a heat pump architecture where electricity is not necessarily the primary driving energy source. Instead, the system was designed to make use of flexible energy sources such as solar heat, biofuels, green hydrogen, geothermal energy, green electricity and recovered heat.
Compared with direct heating systems such as boilers and heaters, the project explored the potential to boost useful heat output and reduce energy use and carbon emissions in selected heating applications. The project also addressed the possibility of generating cooling for industrial applications and district cooling.
A key part of the work was to move the technology from concept development toward proof-of-concept validation. The project included lab-scale prototype development, testing of critical functions, performance measurement, business development, market dialogue, upscaling considerations and intellectual-property strategy.
The Swedish Energy Agency assessed the project as having significant potential, with relevance for flexible energy sources for heat pump operation and good prospects for further commercialisation. The support therefore represented an important early validation step for Greenco Tech AB’s work with advanced thermal energy technologies.
For Greenco Tech AB, the project became part of a broader development path toward flexible thermal energy systems, heat-driven technologies, thermal storage integration and future hybrid energy solutions for industry, buildings and district energy networks.
