
Greenco Tech AB was granted support from Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency, through the call Innovativa Impact Startups hösten 2023 for the project “An Innovative Heat-Driven Heat Pump.”
The project focused on advancing Greenco Tech AB’s heat-driven heat pump concept, a technology designed to provide flexible heating and cooling with minimal electricity demand.
The concept is based on the idea that a heat pump does not always need electricity as its primary driving energy source. Instead, the system can be designed to use flexible energy sources such as solar heat, biofuels, green hydrogen, geothermal energy, green electricity and recovered heat.
Compared with direct heating systems such as boilers and heaters, the project explored the potential to boost useful heat output, reduce energy consumption and support lower-carbon heating and cooling solutions. The technology also addressed potential applications in industrial cooling and district cooling.
A key part of the project was to strengthen the pathway from early technical development toward customer-oriented validation. The work included intellectual-property protection, adaptation of the prototype toward customer needs, and preparation for demonstrating the technology to potential customers, partners and investors.
Vinnova’s decision represented an important early-stage validation step for Greenco Tech AB. The application was assessed in a competitive process and evaluated against criteria including potential, solution, customer value, business strategy, team and implementation.
For Greenco Tech AB, the project became part of a broader development path toward advanced thermal energy technologies, including heat-driven systems, thermal storage integration, district energy applications and future hybrid energy solutions for industry and buildings.
